Today’s Theme is Viking Boats!

While the temperature still remains hot, just a mere 29 today, and Aaron and Liz are, once again swimming, I decided to be a bit more cultural. So first a walk thru the Royal Estate on Bydgoy, Cool, leafy and quiet and then onto the Viking Boat Museum. which turned out to be a gem.

After the Viking Boat Museum, all the others were a bit of a let down (sorry Thor Heyerdahl, Fram etc).

Now for a long walk back to the Centre, the water was enticing and not just for me, Oslo, at least today, must rival Auckland for the number of small craft on the water – almost all were motor and very little sail. As for the rest, the beaches had to do

Tjuvholmen, Oslo

As for Liz and Aaron? Well, when I got back to the hotel, both were a not so delicate shade of pink – too much sun……

It ain’t alf hot ‘ere

Norway, land of fjords, snow capped mountains, fit cross country skiers on snow bound trails… in fact I imagine that the Opera House was designed with a ski slope in mindOpera House But it’s 32 degrees and sweltering hot! And this time there’s no swimming like yesterday in Copenhagen – maybe tomorrow. Still the mini cruise was good. Approaching NorwayApproaching Oslo Aaron and Liz have learnt the lesson of filling up to the max at breakfast ‘cos a foot long Subway is 79 kroner (16 NZ dollars). And we won’t talk about the 30 dollar tram either. So what’s free in Oslo? well the Fortress was 🙂 plus they had free cold water

Haworth Main Street

So yesterday was the dry run – almost a wet one but thank you Tesco. Today the tour, minus Mark Cavandish, comes up the Haworth Cobbles. It’s quite good being related to the local vicar. Champagne and other treats

No too many people have this table of goodies right next to the race. Champagne, Pims, Strawberries – the full English treatment! Makes the four hour wait quite easy.

Many thanks to the wonderful shop owners of Haworth.

Soon enough the Riders came thru, first the break-away then the rest
